Tom Mullen is a writer, director, and producer, currently writing the new stage adaptation of "Gods & Monsters," scheduled to open in May 2024 at Theater Wit under the direction of Paul Oakley Stovall. Additionally, he is the author of the new musical "Welcome To The Pines," with composer Mark Sonnenblick.

As the founder and artistic director of Chicago Theatre Workshop, which commenced its first season in 2016 with Broadway Tony Winner LaChanze, he has produced three notable shows: "Wicked City," "Creatives," and "Little Miss Sunshine." Tom directed "Creatives," a production that received a nomination for Best New Musical at the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Furthermore, he recently directed and produced Grammy nominee Cheyenne Jackson in concert at Victory Gardens. With CTW, he has also produced Seth Rudetsky in Concert and the Chicago premiere of the musical “Disaster."

Tom adapted and directed the world premiere of "Trainspotting, USA," a production acclaimed by the Chicago Sun Times as "riveting" and "burn the floor theater." He also directed the off-Broadway musical "Tomorrow Morning" by Laurence Mark Wythe at the York Theatre, which received nominations for an Off-Broadway Alliance Award and an Outer Critic Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Musical. Tom directed Joe DiPietro's "FMen" for Bailiwick Chicago and the US premiere of the UK musical "Departure Lounge" at the Royal George Theatre.

Notable productions in his portfolio include "Tomorrow Morning" at Greenhouse Theater (recipient of a Jeff Award for Best Musical Midsize), "Love/Perfect Now Change" with Noble Fool Theatricals, "JOE" at Chicago Dramatist, "Urinetown" at Mercury Theatre, and several Jeff Award nominations, including Best Director and Best Musical.

He conceived and directed the world premiere of "What A Glorious Feeling," an official selection at the NY Musical Theatre Festival, and directed "Full Gallop" with Emmy winner Jill Larson about the life of Diana Vreeland, as well as the world premiere of "Wicked City."

Additionally, Tom served as an associate director for the Broadway revival of Sondheim's "Company" at Roundabout Theatre and "The Rhythm Club" at Signature Theatre in Washington, D.C. His national tours include "The World Goes 'Round" for Columbia Artists and "Sellevision" at Ohio Theatre, Soho. Tom has produced and directed for Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus, Disney Theatricals and Second City Comedy Theatre.

In concert production, he has produced and directed Grammy Winner Oleta Adams, Tony-Winner Sutton Foster, and Emmy-Winner Bea Arthur.

Tom holds a BA in Theatre Directing from Columbia College Chicago. He is represented by Sam Samuelson of Stewart Talent.
